Annual General Meeting in Cambridge

This year's Annual General Meeting will be held in Cambridge with the help of Cambridge Preservation Society, who are celebrating their 80th Anniversary this year. 55 Green Flag Awards in East of England

The best parks and green spaces in the country were announced today by Baroness Andrews and in a record-breaking year the East of England has 55 Green Flag Award winners. As part of the government's drive to improve the standards of management and maintenance of parks, the Green Flag Awards recognise top quality parks and green spaces across the country. Winners are judged against stringent assessment criteria and need to be welcoming and well maintained with the support and involvement of the local community. Along with a record 743 green spaces and parks across the country, the region's winners will celebrate their achievements and collect their awards at a major national ceremony in Liverpool on Thursday 24th July.

Heritage at Risk in the East of England

The East of England register, published by English Heritage, contains 123 Grade I and II* listed buildings and structural monuments at risk.

During the past year, 9 entries have been removed but a further 17 added. The original baseline of the 1999 register included 108 entries and the Region has since removed 52 of those. Of the region's 1706 scheduled monuments, ranging from prehistoric burial mounds and hill forts and Romano British forts and villas to medieval settlements and moats, castles abbeys and military structures of the recent past 17% were at high risk and a further 43% were deemed at medium risk.

Local Spatial Planning - New Planning Policy Statement

Planning Policy Statement 12 on Local Spatial Planning has been issued, replacing the one on Local Development Frameworks.

Eco-town Assessment Summaries

These have now been published by Communities and Local Government and may be of intarest to those living near one of the sites originally proposed.

Civic Trust Awards in the East of England

The controversial Essex University Lecture Theatre, famously described by Prince Charles as “looking like a dustbin from the outside”, was a winner in this year’s Civic Trust Awards.

Spring Conference - 19th April 2008 in Bishop's Stortford

Heritage Event with Heritage Link in Norwich

On Thursday 6^th March, Heritage Link held an event in Norwich for the East of England, in partnership with the East of England Association of Civic Trust Societies. This popular regional gathering brought together voluntary Societies, heritage agencies, regional bodies and everyone else with an interest in heritage.
